The meeting, which also included visits to EUROPOL and EUROJUST headquarters, aimed to validate the work plan of the European EU-ACT project in the fields of police and judicial cooperation.
The Hague hosted a technical cooperation workshop that brought together representatives from the European Union and Central Asian countries – Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan – to validate the work plan of the EU-ACT project in the areas of police and judicial cooperation in organized crime and terrorism, as well as in the threat analysis component.
The activity has included study visits to EUROPOL and EUROJUST, with a focus on strengthening cooperation against organized crime and terrorism.
For three days, representatives from Central Asian countries have participated in round tables on the situation of terrorism and organized crime in Central Asia, underlining the growing threat posed by illicit trafficking from Afghanistan, especially in terms of drugs, human trafficking and arms trafficking. They also agreed on the growing threat posed by ISIS-K, especially due to the increasing radicalization of the population. They also stressed the need to strengthen ties with European counterparts, given the increased presence of Central Asian nationals in European territories, and the need to overcome complex procedures to strengthen judicial and police cooperation.
In addition, the workshop provided a platform to discuss and develop proposals for activities around the three key components of the project: threat analysis, police cooperation and judicial cooperation. These initiatives will be implemented in collaboration with EU member state agencies and in coordination with other EU-funded projects.
