Senegalese security forces are working to strengthen their capacities in the fight against transnational crime and migrant smuggling in Senegal. European Commissioners visited the country to gain first-hand insight into the cooperative work carried out by the security forces.
During their visit, which included several institutional meetings with Senegalese authorities and representatives of the European Union to address issues related to cooperation in security, migration and border management, an institutional event was held at the Amiral Faye GASSAMA Naval Base at the Port of Dakar, organized within the framework of the Joint Operational Programme II (POC II).
During the ceremony, presided over by the Senegalese Minister of the Interior and Public Security, Mouhamadou Bamba Cissé, new vessels were handed over to the Police and the Gendarmerie to strengthen maritime and river surveillance capacities. The Maritime Maintenance Centre was also inaugurated, a facility designed to ensure the operability and sustainability of the nautical fleet used in surveillance missions.
In their remarks, the European Commissioners highlighted the importance of cooperation between the European Union and Senegal to strengthen maritime security, combat migrant smuggling networks and promote the orderly management of migratory flows. They also underlined the value of initiatives such as POC II in consolidating effective operational cooperation between European partners and countries in West Africa.
