With the participation of more than 55 initiatives, ExpoMIF has successfully concluded as a regional platform dedicated to connecting good practices and experiences in integrated fire management.
Over two days, the event has fostered spaces for dialogue, learning and exchange around fire culture, forest fire prevention and response, as well as the visibility of concrete actions developed in different Amazonian contexts. During the first day, participants have taken part in technical sessions on cultural uses of fire and traditional knowledge; governance and regulatory frameworks for integrated fire management; training, professionalization and learning pathways; technological innovation, data and information systems; environmental education, communication and behavior change; gender and inclusive policies; sustainable financing; and climate change and adaptation.
The event has brought together communities, civil society representatives, institutions, international cooperation actors and technical teams to exchange knowledge, practices and solutions. In a context where fire is becoming increasingly relevant in the dynamics of Amazonian territories, ExpoMIF has established itself as a platform for dialogue and collective construction, enabling a comprehensive approach to the issue.
ExpoMIF has been organized by the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO), in coordination with various international and regional partners. The initiative has been supported by German Cooperation (GIZ) and Swiss Cooperation (COSUDE), through the CoRAmazonía project, as well as by strategic partners such as FAO, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and the Amazonía+ programme. In this context, the Amazonía+ programme, funded by the European Union and implemented by AICS, FIAP and Expertise France, has actively supported the development of the event, promoting the participation of initiatives from Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela, several of them as exhibitors.
In this framework, from FIAP we have played an active role in the technical support of the Amazonía+ programme, contributing to stakeholder coordination and capacity strengthening in the region. Thanks to the programme’s support and the backing of the European Union, at least 10 cooperation and working agreements have been promoted and consolidated, involving actors such as Colombia’s National Firefighters Unit, the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management, the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development of Colombia and National Natural Parks, among others, strengthening ongoing processes and opening new lines of collaboration.

From the Amazonía+ programme, Johanna Murillo of Expertise France has highlighted the value of these types of spaces to strengthen forest governance in the region, noting that the participation of more than 200 people has enabled progress in building strategic partnerships and strengthening knowledge systems. In this regard, Laura González Martínez, technical coordinator of the programme from FIAP, has stated that ExpoMIF has been a “total success”, bringing together a wide diversity of experiences from civil society, public institutions and local actors, and has emphasized that the event has helped consolidate ongoing processes and facilitate the creation of new collaborations.
Likewise, the event has made it possible to showcase actions supported by the programme, including an immersive 360° experience on fire as a tool for awareness and knowledge transfer. In total, new cooperation agreements have been established with actors from Colombia, Brazil and Venezuela, reflecting the potential of regional exchange to scale up innovative solutions.
The closing of ExpoMIF has highlighted that integrated fire management requires approaches that recognize the diversity of contexts, knowledge and practices present in the Amazon, and that coordination among communities, institutions and international cooperation has become a key element in advancing more coordinated, sustainable and territory-adapted responses.
