ECOWAS, the European Union and Team Europe partners strengthen support to ECOWAS through this New Grant Agreement
Within the framework of the co-financed EU Support to ECOWAS in Peace, Security and Governance (EPSG) Project, a Grant Agreement Ceremony was held on Tuesday, 24 March 2026, at the premises of the European Union Delegation in Abuja, Nigeria.
Jointly organized by FIAP and the Royal Danish Embassy to Nigeria, the event marked the official inclusion of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the EPSG consortium through a grant agreement of DKK 15 Million. This milestone underscores the continued advancement of the Team Europe approach and reinforces coordinated support to the ECOWAS Commission.
The EPSG Project, led by GIZ as Team Leader in partnership with Expertise France and FIAP as co-implementing partners, aims to strengthen peace, security, and governance across ECOWAS Member States. In line with this collaborative vision, the ceremony formalized and presented the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ financial contribution, channeled through the Royal Danish Embassy in Abuja, to support FIAP’s mandate within the project.
This strengthened partnership will focus particularly on addressing electoral mis- and disinformation, while promoting credible, inclusive, and transparent electoral processes in Nigeria, Benin, and The Gambia.
The ceremony brought together high-level representatives and distinguished guests, including EU Ambassador Gautier Mignot, ECOWAS Director Dr. Cyriaque Agnekethom, Danish Ambassador Jens Ole Bach Hansen, Spanish Ambassador Félix Costales Artieda, and German Deputy Ambassador Johannes Lehn, alongside representatives from GIZ, FIAP, ECOWAS, and the EU Delegation.
Marking a significant step forward in collective efforts to promote peace, security, regional integration, and institutional development in West Africa, the event concluded with the formal signing of the grant agreement by the participating parties.
