As part of the technical assistance provided by EU4SUN, essential aspects for the implementation of the Strategic Nutrition Plan have been addressed.
As part of the elaboration process of the new Multisectoral Nutrition Guide or Strategic Nutrition Plan (PSN) of Haiti, a technical workshop on cost estimation has been held, with the aim of estimating, in a rigorous and participatory manner, the financial, human and material resources necessary for the implementation of this plan.
Throughout the workshop, essential aspects such as the difference between direct and indirect costs, the importance of realistic and verifiable data, and common mistakes to avoid when using the costing tool, such as inconsistencies between targets and assumptions or the incorrect use of units of measurement, have been addressed.
One of the highlights of the event was the use of the costing tool to complete detailed information on activities by sector: food security and nutrition, health, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), education, social protection and targeted nutrition. Interventions included home-based food fortification for children aged 6-23 months and the promotion of local production of complementary foods of high nutritional value, aimed at preventing child malnutrition.
The workshop was jointly organised by the Haitian Ministry of Public Health and Population, UNICEF, the SUN Movement Convergence Hub and FIAP. The European Union Delegation in Haiti also participated in the workshop. This event was a follow-up to the induction session on nutrition investment cost analysis held in September 2024 in Port-au-Prince, and represents a milestone in the technical assistance provided by EU4SUN in the country.
Haiti will now have a budget that will strengthen its strategic nutrition planning, providing it with a solid basis for efficient resource allocation, implementation monitoring and long-term programme sustainability. With this workshop, Haiti reaffirms its commitment to improving the nutritional health of its population and advances its efforts to ensure more effective nutrition investment aligned with national priorities.
