The aim is to strengthen Guatemalan public institutions so that they can tackle the growing challenges and risks in the field of cybersecurity.
The State Secretariat for Strategic Intelligence (SIE), the European Union (EU) and FIAP/Spanish Cooperation have launched the EU-funded CiberSEGURA Guatemala programme in Guatemala City, an initiative aimed at strengthening the capacities of Guatemalan public institutions to tackle the growing challenges and risks in the field of cybersecurity.
Against a backdrop of increasing digitalisation of public services and processes, strengthening the security of information systems and the capacity to prevent and respond to cybersecurity incidents is key to the protection and resilience of public institutions.
Over the next three years, the programme, led by FIAP, will promote the strengthening of institutional and technical capacities, inter-institutional coordination, and the exchange of knowledge and best practice in the field of cybersecurity.
The launch event, held at the SIE’s headquarters, brought together representatives from the State Strategic Intelligence Secretariat, the European Union Delegation to Guatemala, the Spanish Embassy in Guatemala, the FIAP and the National Cryptology Centre (CCN), alongside the Guatemalan institutions participating in the project.
The initiative is being carried out within the framework of Global Gateway, the European Union’s strategy which promotes, amongst other areas, a secure and sustainable digital transformation through partnerships with partner countries.
During the meeting, the main objectives and lines of work of CiberSEGURA Guatemala were presented, along with the next steps for its implementation. The participating institutions emphasised the importance of strengthening cooperation and coordination in order to jointly tackle the challenges posed by cybersecurity and contribute to a more secure and resilient public administration.
