Food security in Côte d’Ivoire

This twinning project is part of the support for the implementation of the Interim Economic Partnership Agreement between Côte d'Ivoire and the European Union and aims to strengthen the strategic partnership, technical and management capacities of public institutions and improve Côte d'Ivoire's food safety regulations, thereby developing trade with the European Union.

The overall objective of the twinning project is to contribute to the preservation of human and animal health in line with the ‘One Health’ approach and to improve food safety in the country. In addition, work is being done to achieve effective control and identification of veterinary risks in order to improve food safety and veterinary hygiene systems.

Project objectives

Updating the legislative and regulatory framework for veterinary public health

Improvement of the organisation of the competent authority and the internal functioning of the veterinary services

Promoting awareness and training in good hygiene practices among stakeholders in the animal food and animal by-products sector

Strengthening operational capacities for health and regulatory surveillance

Strengthening operational capacity for biosecurity in livestock farming
