Development of national legislation in the fisheries sector

Serbia

In the context of Serbia's EU accession process, the main objective of this twinning project is to support Serbian institutions in harmonising their legal frameworks with EU fisheries regulations. Led by the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, in collaboration with the Xunta de Galicia and with the support of the FIIAPP, the project represents a crucial step forward on Serbia's path towards EU integration.

The project is structured in two main components:

One, which includes the preparation of key strategic documents, such as the multi-annual National Strategic Plan for Aquaculture, and capacity building of the Serbian institutions involved, as well as producers and processors in the sector.

The second focuses on the creation of a comprehensive programme for the Serbian fisheries sector, aligned with EU regulations and best practices.

This Twinning project therefore represents a significant milestone on Serbia's path towards accession to the Union, as well as a fundamental step towards strengthening relations between Serbia and Spain, in which both administrations will learn together about the challenges facing the aquaculture sector and its strengthening as an economic activity.
