Improving prevention and response to violence against women in Paraguay

To prevent violence against women and improve support for women who suffer from it. With this aim in mind, FIIAPP is supporting Paraguay’s Ministry of Women to strengthen its capacity for inter-institutional cooperation, as well as its technical and budgetary capabilities.
The initiative will be carried out in the Central and Alto Paraná regions, where the incidence of violence against women is highest. The project is funded by the European Union and implemented by Spanish Cooperation through the AECID and FIIAPP.
This initiative builds on the results achieved by the ‘Support for the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda in Paraguay’ programme, which has been promoting the country’s sustainable development since 2020. Specifically, this project will carry out actions aimed at preventing and addressing violence against women and will contribute to the country’s efforts in the fight against violence by supporting Law 5777/2016 on the comprehensive protection of women against all forms of violence and Law 6806/2021, which declares a national emergency due to femicides.

To help women in Paraguay lead lives free from violence.
Reducing gender gaps
To increase the involvement of both state and non-state actors, as well as the general public, in reducing violence against women and the stereotypes that perpetuate gender gaps.
Legislative support
Support Law 5777/2016 on the comprehensive protection of women against all forms of violence and Law 6806/2021, which declares a national emergency in response to femicides.
Improving care services
To improve support services for the protection of women and the response to violence against them, with a focus on those who are most vulnerable.
